UPDATE 4/20 – 1:50 PM

The State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms have completed their investigation of certain parts of the impacted area and are returning them back to the City of West.  This includes the area from Walnut Street southward.  The City is working to ascertain the damage to the area.  The City of West has chosen to open the area to residents under the following conditions:

  • There is limited access to water, electricity, and natural gas at this time.
  • A curfew is in effect.  All residents are encouraged to be out of the impacted area or inside their residences by 7:00 PM due to health and safety reasons. This curfew will be enforced by sunset.
  • Due to the potential structural damage, residents should be aware of hazards that may include broken glass, nails, and other debris in the roadway.
  • No vehicles larger than a pickup truck will be allowed entry into the impacted area.
  • Residents should maintain a safe speed while travelling through the neighborhood.

Only residents 18 years of age and older who live in this area will be allowed to enter. This is Stage 1 of several upcoming re-entry stages.  The process for this Stage 1 re-entry is as follows:

  1. Assembly will be at the intersection of Reagan Street and Tokio Street.
  2. Vehicles will line up single-file on Reagan Street.
  3. DPS Troopers will mark permitted vehicles with appropriate entry numbers.
  4. Vehicles that have been checked in and assigned entry numbers will then be permitted entry beginning at 3:00 pm.
  5. Access to the impacted area will only be allowed from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

The City of West City Council requests all citizens of West to please use other than north bound Main, Reagan, and Oak Streets for normal daily traffic. Updates on other impacted areas of the City of West will be provided as this information becomes available. Citizens living in these impacted areas should continue to monitor the City of West website for updated information at, or by calling the West Hotline at 254-826-7550.

Please be patient and cooperative with ALL law enforcement officers. They are here for your safety. The City of West’s condolence goes out to the City of Abbott VFD and the West Ambulance Service for their losses.
